Good solid food for not a lot of money. I ordered a hummus dipping platter, which comes with some sliced pita and an absolute VAT of hummus for like $7. Falafel balls are fragrant with spices, crunchy on the outside, and steamy and soft on the inside. Every bite brings out something new in your food. These guys make excellent hummus. It's silky smooth with a creamy taste. Another neat bonus is that they have all kinds of non alcoholic beverages in the cooler for you to try with your meal. These aren't your typical American soda. They're imported, and come in little glass bottles. I tried the apple soda, and it was delightful. Space is huge, and has plenty of seating, but it's never crowded so if you come with a bunch of friends, you'll likely have plenty of space to sit down.
This is my go to for Halal food in Newark. I can always expct great flavored food. I have yet to be disappointed with their food. I've tried their platters. You can choose from the kofta kabab, Chicken kabab, Meat shawarma, or Chicken shawarma. The platters are served with salad and either rice or french fries. My favorite is the chicken shawarma. The meat is perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. The salad is always fresh. I've also had their lamb gyro which is delicious. As sides, I've tried their falafels, regular hummus, Kibbeh, Babaghanouj, Mozzarella Sticks, and Hot Wings. My favorite sides are the babaghanouj and falafel. The mozzarella sticks and hot wings do not disappoint either.
I went to Pita Square and didn't get one square of pita. Seems silly, but it would have been the perfect addition for the meal. That's my only gripe though...the food is fresh and the service is good. Stopped in 40 minutes before close and they seemed to be wrapping up for the night. Sadly, they meant it would be a 15 minute wait for the chicken kabob. Opted for the chicken shawarma which was well cooked and quite tasty. The chicken was piled high on a bed of lettuce and I had cucumber sauce on top. You get two sides with the platter and there's some unique options to compliment your typical choices. The avocado hummus is a nice consistency and a good balance for the shawarma. I really wanted pickles, but likely wouldn't order them as an entire side.
5 stars for the falafel sandwich. Plenty of favlor, made fresh, 0 complaints. This is great for me bc I usually wait until I'm in Jersey City for a satisfying falafel fix so I just had to try this place when my friend recommended. I like the different hummus and salad toppings as more unique options that I don't usually see when I go to places like this. Street parking available.
Highly recommend. Came here with colleagues for lunch and we were well served. Fresh and good quality food. There was tables available for dine in. Vegetarian option/s available.
Our to go weekly lunch, Pita Square has some quality shwarma chicken. The lunch combo combo in platter or pita, with one protein and two sides, cost about $14. The shwarma chicken is my favorite, its moist, well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The rice and sides are also made well, that enhances the overall taste of the platter. The store is little messy but in general service is fast. Big benched are available for group sittings. Park is very hard to find bear the store due to being on busy street of Halsey in Newark.
Ordered a Pita Square Package for 12 again! Certainly plenty to eat, and no shortage of rice! Falafel came in a bag this time, and salad looked a little sorry! Overall, food was still decent with plyto eat for 23 people. I'm sure I'll be ordering again! If you haven't been, check it out!
Here ye here ye!!!! This place is the truth. I've been here about 3 times now and it's super consistent and the lamb pita sandwich is an amazing bite of food. 5 stars are very well deserved here, it's the best Mediterranean fast food joint in the area, chickpea no more!
The food at Pita Square is delicious. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. I ordered delivery and they were very friendly. I would recommend: - chicken shawarma sandwich - kibbeh - hot wing zings (I have a chicken wing addiction) - baklava (I also have a baklava problem) Hopefully soon we'll be able to dine-in when things improve even more with Covid.
We called to see if this place was still operating during this time and they were and informed us they were closing in 5 minutes. Luckily for us they were sweet enough to still take our order! Bless them for that. We were so hungry and craving Mediterranean food lol. The food was good and the meat was fresh. They also had excellent service at the counter. I will absolutely return to this place when in town again.
